Hello Fellow Spotters, We will be holding our weekly practice net on Wednesday, August 26th at 6:30 p.m. on the Minneapolis repeater 146.700 - PL 127.3 for the first 15 minutes. At 6:45 pm we will switch to the Burnsville repeater 146.76 + PL 100.00. Repeater information can be found here for skywarn repeaters <https://metroskywarn.org/amateur-radio/> This is a practice net to make sure your equipment works. You can call in current weather conditions or make a simulated weather report during our practice net. Scripts can be found here. <https://metroskywarn.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Metro-Skywarn-Report-Sc…> Currently all skywarn classes for 2026 have concluded, but there will be more classes in 2027 if you need to take a skywarn class. Practice Net

Hello Fellow Spotters, there will be a Practice net on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on the Minneapolis repeater 146.700 - PL 127.3 for the first 15 minutes, and then we will switch over to St. Louis Park 146.760 - PL 114.8 and PL 100.0 if you are transmitting in St. Paul for the last 15 minutes. You do not need a spotter ID to participate in the practice net, but it is highly encouraged. Go to metroskywarn.org to sign for a spotter class this year. This is a practice net to make, a practice weather report if you would like, or check in to make sure you have your radio programmed correctly, and to see if you can make the repeater in blue sky conditions. I have added a link to a reporting script for you new spotters and for you veterans as a refresher if you need it, along with a link to our repeaters and backup repeaters. - Scattered thunderstorms still expected this morning over mainly southwest and far southern MN, some of which may produce strong winds, frequent lightning and brief downpours. SKYWARN spotter activation is not expected to be needed. - Another round of scattered thunderstorms possible for similar areas early Thursday morning but with less severe potential. - Best chance for widespread steady rainfall comes Friday night into Saturday morning. - Temperatures to remain very close to normal values through Wednesday, then drop below normal Thursday onward. Metro Skywarn Summer Event: Dinner and Weather Balloon Launch at NWS

Have you ever wondered how the NWS launches their weather balloons? Join us for our summer event where we learn about it and watch the launch! WHERE: National Weather Service, Chanhassen, MN DATE: Saturday August 22 from 5pm - 8pm. Program begins at 5:30pm FOOD: Subs, sides, chips, beverages WHAT TO BRING: Lawn chair or blanket, bug spray, anything else to keep you comfortable outside. First, we'll start out with dinner which will include subs, sides, chips, and beverages. (You'll want to set up your seating arrangements first behind the NWS office building near the domed building) At 5:30, Todd Krause, National Weather Service will start his talk. At 6pm, the balloon is scheduled to be launched. Please note, if there are nearby thunderstorms, the launch could be delayed up to one hour. After the release, Todd will show us the data from the balloon as it's coming in. We will socialize with other spotters during this time! We'll have a door prize drawing at 6:45 and continue to socialize with other spotters.
